Even if you aren’t as hockey-obsessed as I am, I hope you can find some inspiration in this video! :)
Crackberry users! What are some of your favourite apps?
I’m not sure if any of you watch hockey, but if you know of anyone who might be interested in doing a hockey pool for charity, let me know! The entry fee is $20 (CDN), and the pool starts this Thursday.
My boyfriend and I are both pretty big hockey fans, so we thought this would be a fun way to raise some funds for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
The Details!
- $20 (CDN) per person
- Start date is October 14th (this Thursday)
- open format teams (there won’t be a draft!)
- 26 players on a team (15 forwards, 8 defencemen, 3 goalies)
- pool is being hosted on www.pickuphockey.com
- optional trade during the AllStar break (you can change your team halfway through the season!)
-we’ve put together a list of potential players; it’s set up so that you can’t sandbag and put all of the top scorers on your team (otherwise, everyone would end up with the same roster)
If this sounds like something you might be into, drop me a line and let me know! The more people we can get, the better the prizes will be, and the more money that will be raised to help find a cure for cancer within our lifetime!
xoxo
Amanda
P.S. - The guy in my above graphic? He’s actually playing Octopush; a really cool game of underwater hockey! This looks like it would be so much fun!
Definitely not health and/or fitness related, but I got a kick out of this and wanted to share. :)
I just got off the phone with my oncologist. We had a really nice talk and she helped to answer a lot of my questions. As I’ve mentioned before, you get SO much information thrown at you at one time when you meet with doctors, surgeons, and oncologists that it’s very hard to remember everything…
Who cares if it’s not Tuesday? If you aren’t already following her, I highly recommend boocanceryousuck. Each and every one of her posts reminds me of why I’m doing this.
Keep being your positive self!
Drew Carey is just a shadow of the man he used to be, and that’s the way he likes it. The former star of The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line Is It Anyway? and the current host of The Price Is Right has given himself until Oct. 31 to achieve the ambitious goal he set last November. He is aiming…

Today was our first real fundraiser, and we managed to raise $1017 for cancer research. I would definitely consider this event to be a success; we’re now 1/5th of the way to our fundraising minimum!
Answer:
Thanks, lovely! I’m still alive, just ridiculously busy. I’m back in school, and I’m playing varsity softball for my college. I’ve also been preoccupied with fundraising for our Ride to Conquer Cancer; we have a big yard sale coming up this weekend, and we’re in the process of putting together a hockey pool for the upcoming season.
I’ve definitely been neglecting this blog as I try to get my priorities in order, but I have in no way “fallen off the wagon.”
Thanks for thinking of me! :)
smaller-n-smaller replied to your post: A stroke of slow-cooker genius
I love cooking steel cut oats over night! I cook them in 1 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup apple juice, 2 cups milk, cut up apples & maple syrup! it’s nom-tastic! I bet adding cinnamon would be terrific!
Mmmm! That sounds really tasty. I love how versatile oatmeal can be! :)
I love that the weather is cool enough that I can eat a bowl of hot oatmeal for breakfast every morning. I love, love, love steel-cut oats, and have just recently discovered that I can make them overnight in the crock pot.
Best. Idea. Ever.
I’m able to make a week’s worth of breakfasts at once, which I portion into containers and stick in the fridge. Each morning, I microwave it with some nut butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whatever fruit or preserves I happen to have lying around. SO GOOD! I’m really digging this cool weather. :)
